GSOH: Great Sense of HomeDating site for neighbourhoods
GSOH: Great Sense of Home was created as part of the Urban Sustainable Development Lab, for Leeds City Council.
It is based on dating site technology, but instead of matching people against their perfect partner, it matches them against neighbourhoods in their city, using open data from OpenStreetMap and Leeds Data Mill to fill out the profiles for the neighbourhoods.
GSOH is open source itself, and has made significant contributions to the open source world as part of its development, including:
- Adding latitude/longitude fields to Thoughtbot’s Administrate package.
- Extending the Ruby CKAN library to support downloading and processing the open data itself. Read this blog post for more information.
- Several fixes to the devise_campaignable module that integrates Rails with MailChimp.
